The steel parts are highly decorative and the high carbon steel blade is lightly hollow ground, giving the sword a great feel with one or two hands.

Circa 1480.

This sword rests in the Schloss Erbach Armoury and is a fine example of a high medieval/renaissance sword (classified as an Oakeshott type XVIII A). This is truly a beautiful example of a bastard sword, effective in the cut and the thrust. Can be seen in Records of the Medieval Sword by Ewart Oakeshott.
