They were metal gloves used to protect fingers, hands, wrists, and part of the forearm in the bloody battles of the era.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eDuring the 11th and 12th centuries, they consisted of a simple mail sack with an opening at the cuff to allow the hand to pass through.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThey later became leather gloves with an iron rondel on the back and others made of mail that buttoned over the sleeve.
