Don Quixote de la Mancha, Don Alonso Quijano, was born in the 16th century from the pen of Cervantes; a knight errant, with a high sense of duty and honor that exceeds the limits of reality, bordering on madness.
Don Quixote attacked windmills believing they were giants; flocks of sheep mistaken for an enemy army; wineskins, asserting they were ghosts... From the result of these and many other adventures, he got what he deserved.
Don Quixote's fame was as well-known throughout La Mancha as it was worldwide; he was the hero of the most outlandish adventures, who lived mad and died sane, in the lap of his beloved Dulcinea del Toboso.
The sword of Don Quixote de la Mancha is mentioned in the masterful Work of Miguel de Cervantes Saavedra, in chapter III, where the humorous way Don Quixote had of arming himself as a knight is recounted:
Oh, whoever you may be, daring knight, who dares to touch the arms of the most valiant errant who ever girded a sword,...!
