Merlin, a name meaning HAWK. Born of the beautiful Lady of the Lake, the great druid Hafgan, from whom Merlin would learn all his magic, prophesied that "The Great Lord of Light" had been born. He learned to be a great warrior from his grandfather, a tireless defender of the empire. He became Merlin the warrior, druid, and faithful advisor to Uther, supreme monarch of Britain.
Upon Uther's death without a legitimate heir, Merlin plunged his sword Excalibur into a solid rock and cried out to the people:
"You ask for a sign; he who draws the sword from the stone shall be the true King of all England."
Merlin then took charge of educating Arthur, Uther's illegitimate son, teaching him all the arts necessary to be a good monarch, and keeping his identity secret until the time came for him to draw Excalibur from the stone and become King of England.
When harmony and peace reigned throughout Britain, Merlin retired to his abode.
"You can now continue to reign without my advice; continue to be a just king, and the future will speak of you."
