The falcata is a type of bladed weapon, a steel sword originating from Iberia, and therefore related to the native Iberian populations prior to the Roman conquest. The Iberian falcata was widely used among the Iberian peoples, or the Celtiberians bordering them, with the "antenna" sword being more common in the more Celtic area of the Peninsula.
The quality of the iron used to construct Hispanic weapons was praised by Roman chroniclers, who were surprised by their cutting ability and flexibility, one of the most valued and sought-after characteristics in their manufacture.
As a curious note reflecting the effectiveness of these weapons, after the first battles in the Iberian Peninsula, Roman troops were ordered to reinforce the edges of their shields with iron, possibly to counteract the cutting power of the falcatas, which was much superior to that of straight swords and sabers.
Our bronze Iberian falcata is manufactured in Toledo and comes with a Certificate of Quality and Origin.
