The Claymore is a two-edged greatsword that required two hands to wield and had a long hilt (at least a quarter of the total length of the weapon), which allowed the user to support it without forcing maneuvers or gripping it by the base of the blade. It was used in foot combat, designed to effectively attack plate armor and superimposed chainmail. They were used and developed by Scottish Highlanders, based on shorter sword models. In the 13th century, these swords were wielded by the Scots in their fight against the English invaders.
