The Briquet saber is a short saber (compared to cavalry sabers) about 75 cm long, easy to handle, with a curved blade about 59 cm long. Collectors refer to it as the m1806, after the year it was introduced into the Napoleonic army.
"The Briquet," like other bladed weapons of the era, originated at the beginning of the French Revolution. It is an infantry saber used by Napoleonic troops: Infantry, Grenadiers, and Artillery.
Its main users were non-commissioned officers, corporals, and privates of elite troops, such as the Imperial Guard, grenadiers, chasseurs, etc.
Despite its utilitarian and decorative appearance, it was an effective and dangerous weapon.
As a secondary and last-resort weapon, it was very useful in case of being caught in a mêlée without a bayonet fixed to the rifle. For example, it served as a means of salvation for any artillery crew member who found themselves under attack while operating cannons, and who, due to their role, could not carry rifles.
